Nissan has used the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show as an opportunity to advertise its new virtual 3D assistant tech meant to entertain passengers in autonomous cars.
To get a 3D avatar, the user has to put on a special 3D mask and take special sticks into both hands so that the system could create an image based on their body and movements.
Unfortunately, being in VR goggles means you cannot drive, which reduces the usability of the feature to completely autonomous (i.e., self-driving) cars. When you don’t have to keep your eyes on the road, you might as well want to entertain yourself somehow, Nissan says.
Later on, the company plans to introduce new special lenses and holographic projections to the tech.
