Nissan Ariya EV revealed with 394 hp and 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds

Nissan has taken the wraps off its newest all-electric SUV, the Ariya. Based on a new architecture, it has very little in common with the marque’s other models and will ship in five trim levels.

The SUV has an aerodynamic shield at the front end instead of the conventional V-Motion grille. It is 4.6 meters long with 2.78 meters between the axles, and has 468 liters (16.53 cubic feet) of storage space. The cabin has to hardware controls except the wheel and pedals; the HVAC and the infotainment are completely sensor-based. There are two 12.3-inch displays on the front panel and a HUD. The system supports voice commands and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Customers may choose between two battery sizes: 63 kWh and 87 kWh. The single-motor spec produces 218 hp (163 kW) or 242 hp (180 kW) depending on the battery type installed. Torque amounts to 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) in both cases. The dual-engine spec called e-4orce produces 279 hp (208 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque with the smaller battery or 306 hp (228 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) with the larger one.

The Performance trim is the strongest of the five, rated at 394 hp (294 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft). Sprinting 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) succeeds in 5.1 seconds, and the top speed lies at 200 km/h (124 mph). The base spec needs 7.5 seconds for the standard sprint and maxes out at 160 km/h (99 mph).

The AWD spec with the smaller battery has 340 kilometers (211 miles) of driving range, while the FWD 242hp version has 500 km (310 miles). The other three are in between.

On-board electronics supports three selectable drive modes: Standard, Sport, and Eco. AWD versions also feature a fourth mode called Snow. ProPilot semi-autonomous system is optionally available.

How soon the Nissan Ariya will arrive in Europe remains unannounced.
