Nissan gets a small battery CUV ready to rumble

Nissan announced the all-electric crossover SUV Ariya last summer (see our gallery) and will be bringing it to the market in mid-2021. In the meantime, however, a new compact CUV is under development.

This new model will approach the Juke in terms of dimensions and comes based on the CMF-EV platform that lends itself well to EVs of various classes.

The unnamed newcomer will utilize a Nissan E-4ORCE AWD system with electric motors on both axles and an advanced roll stabilization system. A front-wheel-drive version is also expected, and may end up more popular thanks to a lower price point.

The cabin should be roomier than that of the Juke, and the top specification will receive a traction battery rated at 63 kWh for around 400 kilometers (248 miles) of range.

No launch timeframe has been specified. When the new Nissan CUV comes out, it will likely have to compete with the Hyundai Kona Electric, Peugeot e-2008 and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka-e.
