Meet Nissan Arizon, a one-off design study with a natural-sounding chat bot

Nissan has brought a concept car called the Arizon to the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in China. Aside from unusual exterior and cabin styling, the car ended up with a voice assistant named Eporo, said to be capable of coherent human speech.

Starting with the body of the SUV, it is rather edgy and angular with sharp lines arranged so that they cross each other a lot. The headlights are integrated into the front grille spanning its entire width, and the DRLs are fang-shaped and installed at the sides. A similar solution can be found at the tailgate.

The b-pillars are missing, and the rear doors are rear-hinged. The whole interior is styled in a minimalist fashion with a big display at the driver’s side and a steering yoke. The roof can auto-dim itself based on the lighting conditions. Adaptive ambient lighting permeates the entire cabin thanks to LED lights integrated straight into the trim. More lights can be found all around the car exterior. Nissan says there are different lighting modes for those looking to wake up or, on the contrary, to relax a bit.

As for the voice assistant mentioned above, Eporo can talk to people inside the car almost like a human. It constructs phrases using a rich supply of real-time metadata, such as the current time, weather, and so on.

The company says that it may eventually implement the technology underpinning Eporo in mass-market cars. The concept itself runs on the CMF-EV architecture, and it is unknown whether Nissan will ever produce a car like this.
