The Japanese automaker employs a staff of 17,000 in North America, but a thousand of factory workers will be getting the axe soon.
Earlier this month, Nissan reported selling a 10.02% share in Mitsubishi Motors, leaving the company with a 34.07% share. It also announced impending global staff cuts to the tune of 9,000 jobs and a planned 20% reduction in car assembly.
Rumors now abound that Nissan might also sever its ties with Renault in the wake of this crisis. It remains to be seen.
