Crash tests are a mandatory step in making a vehicle street-legal. Before it can go into production and reach the showrooms, a number of early samples have to be destroyed in crash tests to see what happens to the body, the frame and the passenger dummies inside.
This video shows us the all-electric Nissan Ariya in a series of collisions with a crumpling and a rigid obstacle. Frontal, side and rear impacts are all included.
The footage provides a good illustration of how a car body reacts to the impact and how fast the safety airbags trigger during an accident. Tests conducted by Nissan also demonstrate how efficient the bodywork is at absorbing the energy of the impact.
