During an invitation-only presentation for its dealerships, Nissan has shed some light on the three electric vehicles it plans to produce over the next two years. Autonews believes there are the successors to the current Leaf and Maxima generations, as well as a new crossover SUV based on the Ariya platform.
No images of these concept cars have been made public yet. The visitors reported that the Leaf would change its body style from hatchback to coupe-SUV in its new version. The mileage should improve by approximately 25 percent. The current generation can cover 364 km (226 miles) on a charge.
Reports are also trickling in that a large and powerful saloon was introduced as a continuation to the gas-powered Maxima lineup. As for the SUV rounding off the trio, all we know right now is that it will likely be based on the CMF-EV platform, like the Nissan Ariya.
The Japanese marque plans to gradually accelerate its EV transition starting from 2025. A total of 27 new EVs are expected to go on sale until the beginning of the next decade, including 19 battery-electric ones (the rest will be hybrids). Even as it pursues this vision of the future, Nissan continues investing actively in ICE car R&D.
