Nissan has attended the Tokyo Auto Salon with a Nismo-tuned version of its Ariya SUV EV. The car received two new high-end powertrains and a special drive mode letting drivers enjoy a Formula E soundtrack on public roads. All prices are pending.
The SUV debuted with 20-inch wheels and a fresh-looking aerodynamic kit including a large front splitter and stylish red accents. Two spoilers appeared on the tailgate, and the rear bumper was tweaked a little. Inside, the modifications boiled down to Nismo seats and red/black trim adorned with Nismo badges.
In its entry-level spec named Ariya Nismo B6, the electric SUV will utilize two motors jointly rated at 367 PS (362 hp / 270 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. A 66-kWh battery will provide the power.
Interestingly, the normal (non-Nismo) Ariya already has a Performance version on sale that churns out superior 394 PS (389 hp / 290 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. We assume that the Nismo B6 will take advantage of its completely redesigned chassis and suspension to outperform that one.
Those in the market for a no-tradeoffs SUV should consider Ariya Nismo B9, the flagship model with 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. It will also take advantage of a bigger 91-kWh battery.
The remaining specs are still secret. The currently available Ariya Performance sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.1 seconds and covers roughly 400 km (250 miles) per charge on an 87-kWh battery.
Sales in Japan start in spring.
