Nissan Caravan MyRoom hits production in Japan

Nissan has brought the Caravan-based camper called “MyRoom” back into production on its domestic market. It debuted last year as a limited Launch Edition with no clear production prospects. The new version will be freely available for ¥5,516,000–6,855,200, Carscoops reports.

The donor vehicle is a long-wheelbase minivan with standard roof height and a low floor level. It rides on black stamped wheels and has unpainted bumpers and side mirror covers. You wouldn’t tell it from the standard Caravan if it weren’t for the decals and the white top.

The interior is furnished with transformable furniture that can turn into a living room, a dining room or a bedroom when needed. There are two queen’s beds to choose from on the list, armchairs that unfold into a single sofa, a table, assorted storage containers and wall outlets. A Nissan Leaf battery pack provides the power for the appliances on board. Light-hued wood is used for the trim throughout, the windows have drapes and Venetian blinds, and there are LED lamps on the ceiling.

For the engine, buyers in Japan get to choose between a 2.0-liter petrol engine and a 2.5-liter diesel. The former delivers 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque, while the latter outputs 132 PS (130 hp / 97 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft). Both rely on a seven-speed AT to send the torque to the rear end, but the diesel has AWD listed under options.

It is unclear whether Nissan may later offer MyRoom outside of Japan.
