A few days after Nissan’s reveal of the new Frontier and Pathfinder models, anonymous sources have started reporting that an off-roader was underway based on the same frame and platform as the Frontier.
It is official that the new 2021 Frontier model is a U.S.-only production model that will not make it overseas. As such, it would make sense for the alleged truck to also be limited to North America. The internationally available Frontier version – the Navara – already has such an SUV relative on the market, the X-Terra. If the hypothetical pickup were ever to be released, it would then have to compete against the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, among others.
No official data exists to support this claim, so we are just going to have to wait until we learn more. The original Nissan Frontier featured in our gallery here comes powered by a gasoline 3.8-liter engine rated at 314 PS (310 hp / 231 kW) and 381 Nm (281 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission can deliver the power to the rear wheels or all four via part-time AWD.
