Video: There is 3,500 HP between this ‘Vette and GT-R

Hoonigan has posted a fresh drag race video between two extreme contenders: a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette Z51 and a 2009 Nissan GT-R with 3,500 horsepower between the two.

Powering the Chevy is a V8 turbocharged to deliver 1,500 hp (1,120 kW) to the rear axle. It weighs in at 1,452 kg (3,200 lbs). The Godzilla might be a bit heavier at 1,588 kg (3,500 lbs), but it takes advantage of a 4.1-liter twin-turbo V6 revved up to 2,000 hp (1,491 kW). Furthermore, it drives all four wheels, which can often be essential in acceleration racing.

Both drivers start things off by warming up their drag tires. The Corvette rushes off to an early start, but the Nissan soon overtakes it, anyway. The second attempt sees the Nissan driver fumble the launch somewhat, but he once again pulls ahead of his rival.

In a consolation run that followed, the ‘Vette gets a headway of a few car lengths, but never manages to do anything with the advantage, losing to the Nissan mere seconds from the start. It then does its best to keep up with the winner, but only manages to maintain the gap, not close it.
