Italdesign, Nissan cooperate on building unique Nissan GT-R50 show car

It has been 50 years since the car design studio Italdesign was founded. The first performance-laden Nissan Skyline GT-R also premiered 50 years ago. You’d think there is no connection between the two anniversaries, but the two companies still thought it was a good idea to celebrate them together.

Nissan will now cooperate with Italdesign in building a unique Nissan GT-R50 coupe based on the top-spec GT-R Nismo. The coachbuilder was responsible for the technical aspect of the latter, while Nissan designers in the USA and UK worked on the appearance.

The Nissan GT-R50 looks completely different from its donor, though. Its entire body has been remodeled and is now 54 mm (2”) shorter, 94 mm (3.7”) longer and 100 mm (3.9”) wider than before. The show car also wears custom 21-inch wheels clad in racing tires, an adjustable rear wing, brand-new headlamps and pseudo-3D rear lights that appear detached from the car body.

The interior houses a fully digital dashboard, a new steering wheel with carbon inserts, and a set of ultra-modern seats clad in leather and chamois.

The Nissan GT-R50 received the stock 3.8-liter V6 engine with considerable improvements. Its performance has been increased by 120 hp / 90 kW to a total of 720 hp / 537 kW and 780 Nm / 575 lb·ft of torque. The transmission and gearbox were also reworked.

Nissan and Italdesign revealed no acceleration performance data on their newest collaboration.
