Nissan works on the fastest GT-R sport car

The anniversary Nissan GT-R50 series, developed with assistance from Italdesign, premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few days ago. Now it turns out that the company is working on a new generation of the GT-R line, which will be drastically different from the anniversary edition.

According to Nissan Senior VP of Global Design Alfonso Albaisa, the vehicle is going to be “something entirely special”.

Professionals voice opinions that the car may inherit some of its design traits from the Vision Gran Turismo concept vehicle that debuted four years ago.

Whatever the case, Nissan engineers have an ambitious goal in front of them. They are going to have to build a powerful and fast street-legal sport car that would feel equally at home in the city and on the racetrack.

The company still hasn’t decided which chassis and drivetrain it is going to use for the next generation of Nissan GT-R. It is likely that the vehicle gets a hybrid engine, though.

The current-generation GT-R coupe normally produces north of 560 hp (418 kW), but enthusiasts have been successful in tuning it all the way up to 2,000 hp (1,490 kW).
