As Nissan continues working on a new GT-R, BestCarWeb claims the sports car will be upgraded in the same manner as the Z series: the platform and drivetrain will be kept with some upgrades, and there will be no electrification. As for the launch date, it is allegedly penciled in for next year.
The 3.8-liter V6 will become more powerful, but not by much. The publication believes that the base spec will produce around 600 PS (593 hp / 368 kW), which more or less corresponds to the output of the current Nismo spec.
Major changes are coming to the exterior and cabin, however. New styling elements will be used to highlight the novelty of the car, while the interior will get the same general assortment of features as the Nissan Z, including a 12.3-inch digital dashboard.
In addition to the above, BestCarWeb refutes the rumors that the GT-R may retire soon due to no longer being compatible with engine noise standards. New noise pollution laws enter into legal force in Japan this fall, but we are told that a ‘control system’ of sorts will be used to circumvent the restrictions.
In earlier news, it was announced that Nissan might be getting a ‘farewell version’ of the latest GT-R ready to rumble with an engine boosted to 720 PS (710 hp / 529 kW). The current generation, which is shown in the gallery and the video here, has been on sale for a decade and a half already, and has gone through multiple updates.
