The only RWD Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) to win the 24-hour endurance race in Japan will be auctioned off at RM Sotheby’s in early November. The car has spent 28 years sitting around as a museum exhibit, but is still expected to fetch $340,000 or close.
Changes in the Japan Crand Touring Car Championship regulations prompted the team behind this particular racecar to rebuild it with a rear-wheel drive system. The six-cylinder engine under the hood received a boost to 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) and was hooked onto an Xtrac sequential transmission.
Japanese star driver Masahiro Hasemi piloted the R32 GT-R to victory a few decades ago. The car proceeded to take part in six races in total and was decommissioned in 1995. Thanks to an early retirement, it has managed to retain its original appearance.
