The Brazil-sold Nissan Kicks SUV family will expand in 2019-2020 to incorporate a new hybrid member.
Called the e-Power, the vehicle will incorporate a hybrid powertrain consisting of an electric motor and a normal internal combustion engine. A similar set-up is already being used in the Japan-sold Nissan Note e-Power. The electric motor rotates the front axle, while the traditional engine functions as a power generator for the car battery.
Rumors suggest the Nissan Kicks e-Power might end up with a relatively small engine (displacement: 1.0L or less), the likes of which are currently being used by the Nissan Versa and Nissan March. Traditionally for Brazil, it will be designed to be compatible with two different types of fuel: gasoline/petrol and ethanol.
