Nissan Leaf celebrates 10 years with a modest update

The Nissan Leaf is an electric hatchback that has been around for ten long years. To celebrate, it will be getting a slight facelift in 2020.

You will be able to order the Leaf in two new color variants - Stealth Gray and Vivid Blue – and the fin-shaped radio antenna will now come standard in all versions.

Inside, the ProPILOT driver aid system will get a range of tweaks and improvements. Among other things, the automatic parking assist will operate 20% faster, and a new blind zone monitor will be added. Pedestrians will now hear the electric car approaching thanks to a sound warning, and the navigation software now automatically includes charging stations in longer routes where charging may become necessary. The nine-inch infotainment display is now also standard, as is a WLAN hotspot.

The most affordable 2020 Nissan Leaf has 150 hp (112 kW) and 40 kWh of battery juice, which enables it to cover at least 200 miles (322 kilometers) before running dry. In January 2019, a performance version emerged with a 217-hp (162-kW) motor and a 62-kWh battery for at least 285 miles (458 kilometers) of range.

Autech, a sub-brand of Nissan, has also refreshed its Leaf coming into 2020, adding a dual-tone paintjob to the catalogue.

Sales launch in February. In addition to the facelift, Nissan will be launching an Anniversary Special Edition Leaf later on next year.

The original Nissan Leaf came out in 2010 and has since sold over 250,000 copies worldwide. The second generation, which is depicted on the video, hit the market in 2017.
