Nissan Leaf makes a 230-mile long autonomous trip in Great Britain

The self-driving EV has set a record by covering the distance of 370 kilometers (230 miles) between the Nissan Technical Centre in Cranfield and Sunderland.

The government-supported project called HumanDrive aims to design autopilot systems that perceive the world just as people do. To that end, the Leaf comes equipped with a LIDAR, a GPS receiver, multiple cameras, and a radar.

The car drove along speedways and suburban highways, automatically found its way through complex junctions and intersections, and changed lanes. The test crew has previously driven it on closed proving grounds to polish its real-time machine learning algorithms.
