Frankly, we have expected a more capable modification of the Nissan Leaf to be released as early as 2017. However, the facelift the series has got that year didn’t bring any under-the-hood improvements with it. The vehicle still came equipped with the old traction battery capable of storing up to 40 kilowatt-hours of power.
Well, it looks like things are finally going to change in 2019. Battery manufacturer EVTEC has posted a pic featuring a 2019 Nissan Leaf with a new, bigger 60 kWh battery that can be charged almost twice as fast as the old one.
According to the company, the next-generation Nissan Leaf will have 215 hp (160 kW) of engine power at its disposal, accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and travel as far as 365 km (225 mi) before depleting its battery. If these figures are confirmed, the Japanese car will be a worthy rival of the Chevy Bolt EV and the Tesla Model 3.
There is no information available on the anticipated price bump.
