Nissan Magnite sells like hot cakes in India

The Indian market was the first for the compact-sized CUV, but if sales are any indication, the model could become a true hit when it ships to other countries.

The automaker just reported collecting nearly 33,000 orders within the launch month. The first two weeks saw 15,000 units sold, but 10,000 more pre-orders rushed in just three days after Nissan made test drives available for everyone.

To meet the growing demand, the company plans on introducing a third work shift at its Oragadam factory, which should reduce the waiting time to a couple months. It will also be hiring around 1,000 new factory workers and over 500 managers to cope with the sheer quantity of orders.

The Magnite comes powered by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine available in non-turbo and turbo forms. The former produces 72 PS (71 hp / 53 kW) and links to a five-speed manual transmission. The latter benefits from 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) and supports manual and CVT.

Since its launch, the entry-spec Nissan Magnite has grown in price by 10 percent to 5.49 Rs Lakh.
