Teased: Nissan Micra successor is a Renault EV

The Nissan Micra never exploded in popularity like the company expected it to during the 2017 launch. With fewer than 40,000 units sold in Europe last year, the writing’s on the wall for the Micra. The question is, would a successor be able to fix the situation?

The reason we are wondering is that Nissan has just published a teaser pic of said successor model, which may go on sale under a different name. The company stays silent about the details, but lets it slip that the compact car is brand new, all-electric, and made for Europe.

The model will occupy the ‘affordable’ niche in the Nissan lineup vacated by the Micra. Nissan will design, and Renault will build and produce the car based on the CMF B-EV platform.

The new compact will serve as an important milestone on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi electrification roadmap. According to the plan, the companies pledge to launch 35 new EVs based on five shared architectures until 2030.
