Old Nissan Patrol gets tuned to 4x the power

Nissan and the Forsberg Racing team have come up with a very special fourth-gen Patrol SUV just in time for the SEMA show. Working with a model-year-1990 example, they have managed to boost its inline-six to 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 747 kW).

Or rather, they have swapped the old mill for a more recent TB48 six-pot from the fifth-generation SUV. It made 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW) from 4.8 liters of volume, but a Garret turbo setup, a high-end intercooler, new exhaust manifolds, a tweaked ECU and other modifications persuaded it to slam the crank with four times that power. A manual transmission delivers the torque to the axles through a heavy-duty clutch.

Chris Forsberg’s engineers have also revamped the entire suspension, mostly using Nissan’s own Nismo parts. They installed auxiliary lights and other rally-friendly equipment, put 17-inch wheels in 35-inch Yokohama tires into the arches and generally made sure this Patrol won’t get stuck off the grid. The interior ended up with Recaro seats and a quick-release steering wheel.
