Nissan Pulsar transformer can be yours for ~$16k

A 35-year-old Nissan Pulsar NX Sportbak is up for grabs in the USA right now with low mileage and the bidding at $15,850, but you will need to hurry if you want it.

Back at the time, the Sportbak version of the car was considered an exotic of sorts – it could transform from wagon into a light pickup truck and a convertible. Produced in the late 1980s, the base Pulsar NX model was a coupe closely related to the Nissan Sentra. It was rather unassuming for the time. The Sportbak, on the other hand, was the Japanese marque’s only truly mass-produced transformer car back then.

Owners received two rear ends with their purchase. One was shaped like a canopy and turned the car into a three-door family wagon when installed. The other one was a simple trunk lid. Using neither of the two left the trunk area exposed for a pickup-like aesthetic. Finally, owners could remove some of the roof panels and drive Targa-style.

The example on sale benefits from the most powerful engine ever offered for the Sportbak – a 1.8-liter four-cylinder mill rated at 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and 152 Nm (112 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is four-speed automatic.

With roughly 15,000 kilometers (9,300 miles) under its belt, the car has traveled 430 km (267 miles) per year on average. The seller claims it is in excellent condition barring some natural wear-and-tear.
