Almost a million Nissan SUVs recalled over ignition key malfunction

Nissan and the NHTSA have teamed up on recalling 809,000 Rogue and Rogue Sport SUVs in the North America. The models, otherwise known under the names X-Trail and Qashqai, can experience a sudden loss of power while driven, but not due to any kind of engine failure.

Apparently, select modifications of the U.S.-made Rogue come with folding key fobs. After years of use, the mechanism that keeps the ignition key unfolded starts giving in, which may occasionally lead to the key folding back on its own and rotating in the lock, stopping the engine.

It should be easy to see how your engine killing itself all of a sudden can be dangerous on the road. Nissan claims it is unaware of any related incidents, but advises against putting any extra weight (like other keys) on the key fobs.

The campaign targets all Nissan Rogues made since August 7, 2013 until August 14, 2020, and all Rogue Sport units manufactured between November 28, 20016 and June 20, 2022.
