Nissan hopes to attract the younger audiences with a compact, battery-powered sports car, Carscoops reports quoting the company’s Global Product VP, Ivan Espinoza. It looks like the Silvia may return to us in electric form after a 21-year-long pause in production.
Speaking in the interview, Espinoza denied the rumors that the company was preparing a new hot hatchback for release that would be able to compete with the Honda Civic Type R and the Toyota GR Corolla. He emphasized that the upcoming sports EV would be smaller and more affordable than the latest Z (pictured below). According to him, the car was envisioned in two main versions – standard and high-end Nismo.
Nissan first hinted at the possible comeback of the Silvia as an EV at the beginning of 2022. Only some design sketches were revealed, but they garnered plenty of positive feedback from the show audience. Back then, the company reckoned it was able to release such a car sometime in 2025.
