The Nissan Skyline sedan, known outside of its domestic market as Infiniti Q50, has received a top spec from Nismo. Only 1,000 units will be made, including 100 in a new trim called Limited Edition.
The base car is a Skyline 400R powered by a 3.0-liter V6 originally rated 405 PS (400 hp / 299 kW) and 475 Nm (350 lb-ft) of torque. The same Nismo engineering team that brought us the GT500 racecar has worked to boost the output to 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft). It has also modified the gear shifting logic of the seven-speed AT. As a result, the company claims the car became more dynamic, although there are no specific numbers to discuss.
To make the Skyline more stable and responsive in turns, it was put on a lighter, broader set of 19-inch Enkei wheels shod in wider custom tires (+20mm / 0.8 inches on the rear axle). It also landed with wear-resistant brake pads and assorted tweaks to the suspension, ABS and ESP. Special window glue that the company had used for the GT-R Nismo was used here for the front and the rear windshields, increasing the overall stiffness of the car body without adding any weight. Cooling was improved by routing more of the airflow through the radiator grille.
The body kit was redesigned with more downforce and less drag in mind. You can notice the new bumpers and side sill extensions with red accents on them. Elsewhere, the anti-fog lights are new, and there are GT and Nismo badges all around.
The interior largely corresponds to the stock 400R, but the steering wheel is now wrapped in leather and ha a zero-hour mark on it. The front seats were swapped out for Recaro buckets with red inserts in the middle.
As for the Skyline Nismo Limited Edition, it will be celebrating 60 years of the S54A-1 racecar. It will debut in mid-2024 with exclusive design features, engine stickers stating the name of the engine builder, serial number plaques and special logos.
The standard Skyline Nismo will go on sale in early fall 2023.
