Nissan will be participating in the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon in January with a number of Nismo production cars and a handful of odd prototypes. Let’s take a look at the latter.
The Caravan MPV has morphed into what the manufacturer calls the Disaster Support Mobile Hub – a specialized rescue and assistance vehicle for emergencies and natural disasters. It received a mobile roof platform linked to the tailgate, assorted access ladders and steps, meaty off-road tires and some auxiliary lighting, as well as medical equipment in the cabin.
Nissan has essentially turned this particular Caravan into a mobile power generator using a large, non-removable battery pack cobbled together from used Leaf EV power cells. The pack holds enough energy to power up the assorted external equipment that can be used in rescue operations.
Less is known about the rest of the vehicles in the gallery here. The darkened photo at the end shows an X-Trail Crawler, which sounds like a rock crawler build with reinforced suspension, added ground clearance and heavy-duty transmission. The specifics remain to be revealed, though.
Then there is a Roox Beams, a compact van wearing jeans fabric for exterior accents in addition to the interior trim. Next to it is March Customized, a vehicle ‘dedicated to a pastry and candy maker who found his calling in life.’ It has imitated wood accents all around and chalk boards instead of rear windows.
Rounding off the lineup are Autech-tuned X-Trail and Serena models. Both have received a sporty exterior redesign along with a new interior, but the details – once again – remain to be revealed at the show in January.
