Nissan first teased us the Z Proto in May 2020, unveiling it in September that year and following up with a production-ready sample last August. However, it is already March 2022, and the car has yet to hit the assembly lines. We are told it will be happening soon.
According to a representative of a Nissan dealership who claims to have inside knowledge about the company’s plans, the new Z will enter production later this month. It will then go on sale in June, and the automaker plans to launch a large promotional campaign in August.
It seems unlikely that even the manufacturer itself would know the precise dates, as the semiconductor crisis continues ravaging the automotive industry and disrupting schedules.
When the Nissan Z does ship, however, it will do so in Sport and Performance guises. The latter will be available with an optional Proto package. Both will utilize a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 405 PS (400 hp / 298 kW) and 475 Nm (350 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers will be able to choose between six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic for transmission, but the only driven axle will be the rear one.
