Nissan Motor Company said it was working on a new Z-series sports car envisioned as a replacement for the 370Z coupe currently on the market.
According to Nissan CPO Philippe Klein, last year’s rumors concerning the alleged abandonment of the Z series by the company have been unfounded after all. He did say that to manufacture and to sell vehicles like this is a hard task indeed, and that there is strong competition in this market segment, with companies ruthlessly fighting for clients. Furthermore, ever-sterner safety regulations force the manufacturers to outfit their cars with the latest in safety tech, including larger brakes and heavier axles, which in turn results in increased price AND weight of the sports cars on the market. Needless to say, all of the above applies to the Z-series vehicles as well.
Mr. Klein added that their newest sports car is a medium-term project, and that its high-end modification hasn’t been conceived yet.
