Nissan Z getting a split grille option in Japan

When the new Nissan Z debuted, many criticized its large, rectangular radiator grille. It looks like the manufacturer decided to listen to the market for once and offer a different styling option.

The split grille originally premiered on the Nissan Fairlady Z Customized Proto nearly a year ago (the prototype car is shown in the gallery and the video here). The company emphasized back then that it was only a temporary design. However, Japanese publication Nostalgic Car is now reporting that the grille will go into production in mid-2023 and be available as a dealership-installed option for the Z.

Right now, it looks like it will be a Japan-only update, while the other markets – including the USA – may get this grille design as standard for the high-end Nismo. A Nismo test vehicle was spotted in Arizona in July last year with a heavily disguised front end, leading us to suspect a split grille underneath. More spy shots followed in December 2022 confirming this suspicion.
