Ararkis Automobili aspires to release the world’s fastest hypercar capable of going 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a second and a half. It has so far released these 3D renderings.
The car is called the Sandstorm. Along with the company name, it looks like a license-dodging reference to Arrakis, the planet from Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. Founded in London, UK by Priven Reddy, a budding entrepreneur from South Africa, Ararkis is not his first startup, but the first one in the automotive industry.
It is still unknown how far into the development of the car the company is, what kind of engineering and design force it has at its disposal and who will handle the production. The top speed will apparently be capped at 300 km/h (186 mph), which sounds a bit middling for a 1.5-second hypercar.
The announcement says that the Ararkis Sandstorm is largely made from carbon fiber and aluminum parts. It utilizes two electric motors and sources its power from a 115-kWh, liquid-cooled battery pack. A full charge should last roughly 500 km (310 miles).
The interior of the car is being envisioned with magnesium-alloy-backed seats, a modern infotainment system and four airbags. Drivers will be able to switch between various powertrain modes and listen to a voice description of every in-car feature.
Ararkis Automobili says only 20 cars will be made and offered starting from U.S. $2 million. We wouldn’t be surprised to learn that several pre-orders have already been made, given the “fastest car” claim, but it really remains to be seen whether the Sandstorm will ever reach the market.
