Oman’s first electric car is both weird and expensive, but kind of intriguing

Mays Motors, an automaker with headquarters in the Sultanate of Oman, has unveiled its first battery car destined for mass production. The Mays iE1 may look bizarre and cost 25,000 Omani Real ($65,000 USD), but the first 100 units are already sold out.

The two-seater has a carbon-fiber body with a rather long tail-like attachment outlined with a red LED stripe. The rear wheels sit close to each other, the doors swing open upwards, and the overall outlines of the car are very intricate.

No interior shots have been posted so far. The manufacturer claims that engineers visited 130 car factories before they approved the design and technical specifications of the Mays iE1, and had BMW, Maserati, Tesla and Porsche praise their work on the exterior.

Per the manufacturer, the car needs 4.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and maxes out at 280 km/h (174 mph). Its driving range is reported as “500+ km” (over 310 miles), but there is no mention of battery capacity.

Mays Motors plans to sell its first EV on its domestic market, adjacent countries, and abroad.
