One-of-a-kind Ferrari 512 BB Widebody heading to auction

A one-off Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer optioned with a widebody kit is slated to cross the auction block in the UK in April, poised to bring home between £150,000 and £170,000.

The owner of the two-door sports car bought it in early 1977 and soon handed it back to Maranello Concessionaires with a request for a custom hood cover, trunk lid and fender flares. The company fabricated these parts from aluminum, moved the side lights to fit the new profiles, and enlarged the air intakes slightly. It also decked the engine with a see-through lid providing a glimpse at the 512 BB’s twelve-cylinder engine.

The engine block stayed stock, which means it continued to churn out 345 PS (340 hp / 254 kW) and 449 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels. In its prime time, the sports car needed 5.5 seconds to sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph).

We suppose this particular Boxer might sell for a bit more than the auction estimation, because that’s how much a regular 512 BB costs these days. First, it’s a rare right-hand-drive example from a batch of 101 vehicles made for the UK. Second, it has less than 10,000 km (6,000 miles) on the odometer. How many bidders will appreciate the widebody look remains to be seen, however.
