Car manufacturer Opel has released a new version of its Grandland X crossover/SUV. Called the Hybrid4, it is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that supports charging from a regular power socket. This is the first time the German marque ventures into the electrified vehicle segment.
The Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 comes powered by a turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 200 hp / 149 kW and an electric motor that can contribute up to 110 hp / 82 kW of its own. The transmission is eight-speed automatic. The powertrain is configured in such a way as to engage the electric motor only when necessary, temporarily making the car AWD.
Whenever the 13.2 kWh battery is on full charge, the SUV can cover up to 50 kilometers (31 miles) on electricity alone. You may use a Wallbox charging station to replenish it in less than two hours.
The PSA Group plans to release PHEV versions of its other cars in the future – most notably, the Citroën C5 Aircross, Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 5
