Opel revealed a month ago that it intended to convert an exotic and elderly Manta coupe into a battery restomod named the Manta GSe ElektroMOD. Here are the first details.
The car looks almost like a coupe straight out of the 1970s, but not without certain modern touches. For one, there is a Pixel-Vizor grille display that can output text, the Opel badge, or the Manta logo.
The two-door body with the elongated hood is unchanged from the donor vehicle, but the headlights are new, as is most of the tech. Unofficial sources are reporting that the car could run on a single electric motor with 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and a 50-kWh traction battery.
The original Opel Manta A came out from 1970 to 1975. The company produced over half a million units. The name “ElektroMOD” pays homage to the Opel Elektro GT prototype racer, which broke multiple speed records at the Hockenheimring raceway half a century ago.
The full premiere is scheduled on May 19, 2021.
