Opel refuses to attend the Geneva Motor Show 2018

The German car maker Opel has released an official statement saying it would miss the 88th International Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland on March 8-18, 2018. An insider source claims that the company has next to nothing to reveal at the show in terms of new products or solutions.

It should be reminded that last year Opel came to Geneva with as many as seven vehicles, if you count all the modifications. You would probably remember the crossovers Grandland and Grandland X. Well, looks like the company has no treats for its fans this time around.

The Opel brand development strategy envisages a full-scale shift of the production focus to hybrid and all-electric vehicles before 2020. It also provides for greater engine and chassis standardization and unification.

By 2024, Opel plans to produce its entire range of vehicles using only two platforms as basis. The company has to maintain as many as nine of these right now, so the decision seems logical. Apart from the above, it wants to enter 20 new markets over the world.
