Opel ushers in a supermini van EV

Automaker Opel has come up with a commercial version of its Rocks-e model (see video). Called the Rocks-e Kargo, it is a single-seat electric car only 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) long capable of carrying up to 400 liters (14.1 cubic feet) of goods.

A similar modification exists in the Citroen My Ami lineup. Like its French cousin, the Opel trades its passenger’s seat for some added cargo space. The manufacturer offers a variety of organizers here, such as boxes or a horizontal divider you can put up to 40 kg (88 lbs) on.

The maximum load capacity amounts to 140 kg, or 308 pounds. Thanks to being so small, the Rocks-e Kargo can turn around within a radius of 7.2 meters (23.6 feet).

Power comes from a small motor rated at 8 PS (8 hp / 6 kW). This enables the EV to attain a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). Once fully charged, it has 75 km (46.6 miles of range). Opel believes it will be of primary interest to couriers, delivery services and repair/maintenance workers needing to move large equipment bits around.

Germany and Netherlands will be the first to get the EV in late 2022. Prices will start from €7,990, a €1,500 premium over the Citroen My Ami Cargo mentioned above.
