The Opel factory in Russelsheim, Germany has started production of the sixth-generation Astra hatchback and wagon. Pre-orders have been running since last fall starting from €22,465 for the hatch and €23,565 for the estate.
The new Opel Astra shares the EMP2 platform with the third-gen Peugeot 308. An electric version is missing from the lineup so far, but the automaker still believes that the new Astra has to pave the way for the marque into an all-electric future. As such, the Astra EV is set to debut next year, and five years after that, Opel reckons to discontinue ICE cars for good.
The first deliveries in Europe are due this spring.
