Back in the spring of 2021, Opel showed us a design study called the Manta GSe ElektroMOD and hinted that its long-unused GSe badge might make a comeback in the future. Later we learned that the badge was coming back for EVs and hybrids, rather than ICE sports cars. The Astra GSe shown here is the first member of the family.
The vehicle comes to the market in wagon and hatchback body styles. Both utilize a plug-in hybrid drivetrain rated at 225 PS (222 hp / 165 kW) and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque. The figures are identical to those of the gas-powered Astra shown in the attached video. So, what has changed if the performance did not? According to Opel, the beauty of the GSe family is in the details, such as tweaked steering, lower clearance, and more robust dampers and springs.
As well, the new Astra GSe rides on its own 18-inch wheels and has Alcantara-wrapped sport seats in the front row. The company promised premium trim features for this lineup a while ago, but no details have been revealed so far.
