Car marque Opel has published the first official photos and videos showing its next-gen Corsa hatchback prototype on a test drive in Dudenhofen, Germany and the Swedish part of Lapland.
The engineer team went beyond the Arctic Circle to study the performance of the car’s main units and components under extremely low temperatures. As for the Dudenhofen part of the test drive, the team used it to review and perfect the chassis design.
The upcoming sixth generation of the Opel Corsa utilizes the CMP car architecture provided by PSA Peugeot Citroen. Its chassis is 40 kilograms (88 lbs) lighter owing to extensive use of high-tensile steel. In its lightest version, the hatchback weighs in at only 980 kilograms (2,160 lbs).
The car will ship with matrix LED headlights and a choice among several gasoline and diesel engines. Customers will also be able to opt for an electrified version.
Sales will begin this summer, but first cars won’t arrive to their buyers until at least the fall.
