Opel reboots its sporty GSe lineup

The German manufacturer has decided to bring back the GSe badge previously associated with the marque’s sportier cars – but not without an electric twist.

As you may remember, the abbreviation stood for ‘Grand Sport Einspritzung’ (the last word means ‘fuel injection’ in German). Its resurrected form will be ‘Grand Sport electric’. This means only electrified and fully electric vehicles will receive the badge.

One such already exists – the Manta GSe ElektroMOD that debuted as a concept car in May 2021 (see video). Now, Opel has confirmed that there will be a whole family of cars with this suffix and revealed their new emblem.

All would-be buyers of GSe cars can look forward not just to sporty styling, but also premium trim options and tweaked chassis. The company said before that it intended to get its entire lineup for Europe electrified by 2024 and all-electric by 2028. Just what production car will be the first to wear the revived badge remains unannounced at this point.
