Opel reveals ICE-powered Mokka variants

The second-gen Opel Mokka debuted this summer as a purely electric SUV, but today, a gasoline and a diesel spec were revealed.

If you are looking for an ICE-powered Mokka, your first option is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine available in two guises. One can deliver up to 100 hp (75 kW) and 205 Nm (150 lb-ft) of torque, while the other one can make 130 hp (95 kW) along with 230 Nm (170 lb-ft). The latter can pair with eight-speed automatic, while the former makes do with six-speed manual. Your other option is a 1.5-liter turbo diesel rated at 110 hp (80 kW) and 250 Nm (183 lb-ft) of torque.

The 100hp spec needs 11 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 miles per hour) and tops out at 182 km/h (113 mph). The 130hp manual version is the fastest with a sprint that takes 9.2s and 202 km/h (125.5 mph) max. The diesel engine may not boast impressive specifications, but it only consumes 3.8 liters of fuel per 100 km. Gasoline versions aren’t too hungry either with 4.5–4.8 l/100km.

To put things into perspective, the electric Mokka packs 136 hp (100 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. It runs for around 322 km (200 miles) on a single charge, has no exhaust pipes and sports an “e” badge. Other than that, the cars look identical.

The fossil-fuel-powered Mokka lineup comes with LED lighting by default, and you may pay to get IntelliLux LED matrix headlights, which is a unique offer in this vehicle class. Adaptive cruise control is available for driving between 30 and 180 km/h (18.6 – 112 mph), and automatic emergency braking recognizes pedestrians and stops the car – but only until 30 km/h (18.6 mph).

Interior trim options include fabric, leather and Alcantara. Ergonomic seats support six directional adjustments, and the driver’s seat additionally benefits from heating and massage functions. Three multimedia systems are on offer: Multimedia Radio (7”), Multimedia Navi (7”), and Multimedia Navi Pro (10”). Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both supported, as are voice commands and wireless gadget charging.

The GS Line trim introduces fabric-wrapped seats and décor elements in red and glossy black. The new 12-inch Opel Pure Panel is an instrument cluster composed of two widescreen displays. All the main controls are hardware, rather than sensor-based.

The new Opel Mokka should become available to pre-order later this fall.
