Opel extends range on 2 EVs

The updated Opel Corsa and Mokka models offer considerably better battery life thanks to a comparatively modest technical upgrade.

The company says changes were made in the heating and air conditioning systems, as well as the powertrain, enabling the Corsa hatchback to cover 359 km (223 miles) on a charge instead of 336 km (209 miles). The Mokka CUV received a similar range of modifications for 338 km (210 miles) of range instead of 325 km (202 miles).

According to Opel, the engineering department was able to optimize the efficiency of the car’s heat pump, enabling it to maintain the needed temperature at much lower power consumption. The same applies to the new reducer. Finally, low-resistance tires replaced regular ones for even greater savings.

In three years’ time, Opel expects every last vehicle in its range to be electrified to at least some extent. A full transition to BEV production remains penciled in for 2028. The German marque will be resurrecting the famous trademark, Manta, in the mid-2020s, putting that name on an all-electric SUV.
