Opel has unveiled what largely qualifies as a fire truck, but is actually an ultra-compact Rocks-e EV only 2.4 meters (7.9 feet) long. The unusual transports will assist the company’s fire brigade in Russelsheim, although not as a fire extinguisher.
The tiny ride wears a fitting livery with phone numbers of emergency services on it and LED-based emergency blinkers. Although Opel has a commercial version of the Rocks-E in its catalog, this one is a passenger version, so there isn’t much free space for firefighting equipment inside.
Opel Special Vehicles, which cooperated with a fire dept on this project, says it chose the Rocks-E because of its compact size and high maneuverability. Using it, the emergency crew will be able to arrive at the spot quicker than it would if it were to drive a full-blown truck from one end of the industrial complex to the other.
Furthermore, being all-electric, the car can be safely used in enclosed spaces and facilities. The automaker believes it can save time for firefighters responding to calls.
