Panoz sports car goes under the hammer for 1/2 its original price

A 2005 Panoz Esperante GTLM, one out of only five such cars in existence with around 13,500 km (8,400 miles) under its belt, has just been sold for $82,500 USD, nearly a half of what it used to cost new.

The North American company was founded by Dan Panoz, who designed the Esperante coupe in 2000. With its engine located within the wheelbase at the front, the coupe featured an aluminum chassis with stainless-steel subframes and came with a selection of engines to choose from.

The GTLM version debuted in mid-2000s to let the company homologate a GT2 endurance racecar, which ultimately won Sebring and Le Mans prizes.

The road-legal vehicle packed a 4.6-liter Ford turbo petrol engine and a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. It needed 4.2 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). The car rode on 18-inch wheels and benefited from adjustable suspension and Brembo brakes.

Interior highlights included Ford Mustang gauges installed in the middle of the dashboard, an AC, a stereo, and leather seats with enhanced lateral support.
