WIP: Next-gen Peugeot 2008

The large SUV market in Europe is currently dominated by the Peugeot 5008, which manages to sell better than the Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq. The mini-SUV segment, on the other hand, is occupied by the Renault Captur. The compact crossover sold over 185,000 copies in 2018, surpassing its main rival – the Peugeot 2008 – by a wide margin.

Based on the spy photos recently uploaded online, Peugeot is aware of the problem and is actually subjecting the development mule of the next 2008 to road trials somewhere in France.

That said, the car is covered in thick camo, making it hard to tell whether it’s really the new 2008. However, the general outlines of the car, as well as the shape of its headlights, both speak in favor of this assumption.

Rumors say the next-gen Peugeot 2008 might end up styled like the current 3008 and 5008 and ship with a digital dashboard, as well as a revised selection of engines. A hybrid or all-electric version may be released as well (note that the test mule pictured here is conspicuously missing the exhaust pipes and the fuel tank lid).
