Peugeot as a family business started in France in the distant year 1810, and will therefore be celebrating its 210th anniversary this fall. For the milestone to be remembered, it will be breathing new life into a dated 205 GTi compact hatchback.
A suitable car has already been found in a near-stock state with no exterior mods whatsoever. Peugeot provides no insight into its background, but points out a certain amount of rust on the body and the ruined cabin that needs a complete overhaul. Once fully restored, the vehicle will become an exhibit of the company’s own museum.
The Peugeot 205 GTi came out in 1983–1992 originally powered by a 1.6-liter engine rated at 105–117 PS (77–86 kW). Later models shipped with a larger 1.9-liter four-pot good for 122–128 PS (90–94 kW). The transmission was five-speed manual across the entire range.
