A road-legal version of the rally-focused Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 found a new owner at an auction on November 5, 2022. It was number 188 out of 200 total units produced to homologate the main car for FIA Rally Group B.
Despite the passing semblance to the stock 205 model, the Turbo 16 is actually a completely different car sporting custom bodywork by Heuliez, a 1.8-liter turbo-four engine mounted within the wheelbase, and four driven wheels. A Citroen SM five-speed manual transmission carries 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) and 255 Nm (188 lb-ft) of torque to both axles, taking the car 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 220 km/h (136 mph).
This particular example finished in Winchester Grey with a two-tone cabin rolled off the assembly line in 1984 and had belonged to the same owner since the summer of 2004. It was a British employee of Peugeot with 25 years of experience in the company, a major fan of the brand as a whole and the Turbo 16 in particular.
For the 18 years preceding the sale, the car had been kept in a garage and only driven out for shows and photo sessions. Its mileage is stated as 40,041 kilometers, which corresponds to 24,880 miles. In August 2021, the seller had it fully serviced with OEM replacement parts.
