The Peugeot 208 became the best-selling car in Europe in 2022, dethroning the Volkswagen Golf that had held the pedestal for 14 years in a row.
Over the 12 months of the past year, customers in the Old World countries have bought 206,816 units of the Peugeot 208, a 5% increase over the preceding year. The Dacia Sandero claimed the second place with 200,550 units, and the Volkswagen T-Roc landed third with 181,153 units sold.
The once-leading Volkswagen Golf trailed the top-5 list with 177,203 units sold and a 14% YoY reduction. The places from sixth to tenth were claimed – in that order – by the Fiat 500, Toyota Yaris, Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Dacia Duster and Hyundai Tucson.
For the record, the Golf saw only four non-winning years in its entire history, namely the years 1997, 2006, 2007, and 2022.
