Peugeot 208 turns into an affordable racer for enthusiasts

Peugeot has come up with a special edition of its 208 hatchback (see video) that targets beginning racing drivers and will participate in the new FR6 Trophy rally series in France soon. With a starting price of just €38,900, it is shaping up to be one of the cheapest racecars out there.

On the outside, the car looks stock except for stamped wheels offset in white and green accents scattered around the bodywork. It also flaunts a cool livery, but Peugeot doesn’t specify whether it will be available for the mass-produced version.

All propulsion is handled by the stock 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. It outputs up to 145 PS (143 hp / 107 kW) to the wheels thanks to various optimizations and is bundled with a six-speed manual gearbox featuring tighter gear ratios. The suspension and the brakes are also upgraded from stock, and Michelin Pilot Sport PS5 tires are included as standard.

There are still no interior photos, but we expect to find a homologated roll cage there, a fire extinguisher and revised steering controls.
